Potassium is a raw material of potash fertilizer, which is one of three of the main nutrients mixed in the fertilizer other than nitrogen (N) and phosphate (P), which help to increase productivity and quality to plants of grains, rice, corn, cassava, palm, sugarcane and rubber tree, etc.

    Duty of potash fertilizer (K)

    1)      It has importance to generate nutrients to the three trunks for growth, strength and production of good productivity with quality and promotion of growth of roots and necessary to build up the underground tubes such as yam, taro, chestnuts, onion, shallot, etc.

    2)      It helps to move sugar and starch derived from photosynthesis. (Potassium can help plants to do photosynthesis very well) to nurture the parts that are growing and storing some parts at the tuber or trunk. Thus, the plants like sugarcane, coconut tree and yam need high potassium, because if potassium is in shortage it can make the tuber blighted, coconut is not delicious. In several types of fruit, during bearing fruit period it is preferred to give potassium because it can make the fruit to have high quality, beautiful color, full-bodied and sweet taste arise from moving of sugar to the fruit.

    3)      It helps the trees to have disease and insect resistance better. It makes the plant cells saturated with water because potash can help the roots suck in water better.

    4)      The plants that receive sufficient potash can withstand drought better.

    5)      In case a plant lacks of potash can make it easily withers and stunts, the bottom leaves are yellow and created a burn mark along the leave edge.
